Success is often measured in numbers—but sometimes, those numbers represent something far greater than we initially imagine.
The 1st Annual Men’s Club Purim 5K was one of those moments.
What began as a simple walk/run turned into an extraordinary show of community, generosity, and purpose. Thanks to the incredible support of participants, volunteers, and donors, this event raised $4,302 (after expenses) for the Congregation Neveh Shalom Food Pantry—far surpassing expectations
But what does that number truly mean?
According to leading hunger-relief organizations like Feeding America, the Oregon Food Bank, and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, every dollar donated can provide between four and twelve meals. That means this single event may translate into as many as 51,624 meals. To put that into perspective, that’s enough to feed:
That’s not just a successful fundraiser—it’s a meaningful, tangible impact on hundreds of lives.
Even more inspiring is the growth. At last summer’s inaugural Men’s Club 5K, $3,125 was raised—an impressive amount in its own right. Yet this Purim event exceeded that by $1,177, highlighting the momentum and dedication within the community. Together, in just one year, the Men’s Club has raised a remarkable $7,427 for the food pantry.

And beyond the fundraising, the event itself was a powerful reminder of what community can achieve. On a crisp March morning in Portland, people of all backgrounds came together in a beautiful park setting—not just to run or walk, but to connect, contribute, and share in a collective purpose: to grow stronger, live longer, and help defeat hunger.
Interestingly, the event also embodied something deeper. Psychologist Carl Jung described five essential elements of a fulfilling life: good health, meaningful relationships, appreciation of beauty, purposeful work, and a resilient spiritual outlook. In just two hours, this gathering managed to reflect all five—through movement, connection, nature, service, and shared values.
That’s something truly special.
At its core, the Men’s Club represents more than just a group—it’s a force for good. This event is a testament to what can happen when a community comes together with intention and heart.

Here’s to the volunteers who gave their time, the participants who showed up with energy, and the donors who made the impact possible. The 1st Annual Men’s Club Purim 5K was more than a success—it was a celebration of generosity, unity, and purpose.
And if events like this are any indication, the best is yet to come.
